Let?s settle it once and for all, says Best

Bermuda?s soccer chiefs should lay the club versus country row to rest by deciding one way or the other whether Shaun Goater is part of their plans, says Clyde Best.

Best has criticised the Reading striker for declining to take part in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, but he also had words for the Bermuda Football Association?s hierarchy.

?The people that run football have to take a positive step too,? he said. ?They need to say ?hey, you are coming over?. FIFA (soccer?s governing body) have a rule there. How many years are we going to play around . . . and nobody take the initiative?

?Enforce it if you want to enforce it, if not, then stop complaining about it and go onto something else. But every year it?s the same thing.?

Steve Tores, press officer for CONCACAF, soccer?s regional governing body, said if the BFA wanted Goater in the squad they needed to contact FIFA and request their involvement. He added that this was something that occurred from time to time.

?I know Costa Rica have had issues with some of their players playing overseas, the US and Canada as well,? he said. ?It does come up throughout the region, and not just in this region but pretty much all over the world.?
