A 36-year-old Hamilton parish man received a $200 fine after being stopped by Police and found to be in possession of heroin.

Garret Jay Burrows, of Crawl Hill, was convicted in Magistrates' Court yesterday by Magistrate Will Francis.

Crown counsel Graveny Bannister was aided in court by Koshea Scott who read the facts to the court.

Ms Scott said that on April 9, officers attended the area outside of Place's Place on Dundonald Street where they spotted Burrows.

The officers had received information that Burrows was in possession of diamorphine, known on the streets as heroin.

The officers approached Burrows and informed him that he would be searched under suspicion that he was in possession of drugs.

The search produced a brown paper twist.

"Officer, that's heroin - give me a break please," said Burrows.

The substance was taken to the Government Analyst and was found to be 0.019 grammes or 56 percent diamorphine.

When Burrows was asked if he had anything to say, he responded: "I'm sorry your honour - I cleaned up my act."
