Vegetarian restaurant closes down
closed with more than $20,000 in debt outstanding.
The main creditor is owner of Eve's Cycles and St. George's Cycle Livery, Mr.
Robert Trew.
The restaurant, which used the theme `Your health is wealth', ceased trading last week after bailiffs locked its doors and seized kitchen equipment.
On Friday, would-be-diners were still knocking at the restaurant's doors in hope of lunch. Owners of neighbouring premises, including the Sparrow's Nest bar, did not know where the former proprietors could be reached and had not seen the restaurant staff for a week.
"The restaurant was owned by the Hebrew Israelites group for five years,'' said Mr. Trew. "I thought they had done well. The food was excellent and the restaurant was popular. They always paid the rent until the last two years, when they fell behind with payments.'' "I never give up trying to get money back,'' added Mr. Trew.
The building on Reid Street that housed the restaurant, the Cardinal Building, is owned by the Eve Group.
Mr. Trew doubted reports that the restaurant would be reopened at another location. "We have all the equipment,'' he said.
