Magistrate raps Police delay in Pitcher murder hearing
Police and prosecutors failed to produce a consolidated charge sheet yesterday for the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Jermaine Pitcher.
And they came in for criticism from both the Magistrate Edward King and family members as he ordered the men to be brought back on Monday for the hearing.
Ryan (Tiger) Ball, Keneil Ingham and Jamal Robinson -- all of Warwick -- face a short form preliminary inquiry hearing before Senior Magistrate Archie Warner.
Again, the courtroom was packed with family and friends of Ball, Ingham and Robinson, as well as Mr. Pitcher.
The men have not entered pleas over their alleged involvement in Mr. Pitcher's murder on February 27.
Because of the delay in charging Ball, who had spent five weeks in hospital due to his injuries after the incident, there have been several mention hearings to have all three listed on one charge, rather than have separate "informations'' or charge sheets.
Ball's lawyer Mark Pettingill expressed his worry the delay would mean the men would not be arraigned in the Supreme Court on May 1st -- further extending the time they will spend on remand.
Mr. King told Mr. Pettingill, and the other defence lawyers, Richard Hector and Venous Telford: "Put the blame where it should go. Especially when the press are here. It's not me.'' He added: "I'll adjourn this until Monday. Let them work over the weekend.''
