Two year driving ban after accident

A Hamilton Parish man was disqualified from all vehicles for two years after admitting to drunk driving after he caused an accident on North Shore Road.

Shandieaos Bowen, of Aubrey Road, pleaded guilty to impaired driving yesterday when he appeared in Magistrate's Court.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Bowen $1,000 and initially disqualified him from all vehicles for 12 months.

He also awarded 12 demerit points against him.

The court heard from crown counsel Nicole Smith that Bowen was riding a silver Honda Scoopy east along North Shore Road and a blue motorcycle was travelling west.

Bowen swerved into the other lane causing the driver of the blue motorcycle to swerve as well. Bowen swerved again as a result of the other driver and caused a collision.

When Police officers arrived on the scene, the 33-year old appeared intoxicated, his speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Under the new law, if one accumulates 12 demerit points, he or she will automatically receive a one-year driving ban.
