$1,000 fine for 'just a joint'

A St. David's man pleaded guilty to possession of 2.15 grams of cannabis, when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Princely Fubler, 40, of Cove Valley Lane, was arrested July 31 by Police conducting routine checks at the junction of Cooper's Island and Castle Island Road.

The court heard from Crown counsel Robert Welling that at 11.45 p.m. officers pulled over Fubler, who was riding a silver Honda Scoopy. A search revealed a plastic twist containing plant-like material in Fubler's left front pants' pocket.

Asked what it was, the defendant answered: "It's just a joint."

The officers decided to search him again and found another plastic twist. Fubler was taken to the Southside Police Station where he admitted his guilt and apologised. He was fined $1000.

Teen fined for cannabis possession

A St. George's teenager was fined $1,000 in Magistrates' Court after admitting to possessing cannabis.

Darren Hodsoll, of Boundary Lane, pleaded guilty to possessing 2.97 grams of the controlled drug cannabis when he appeared in court.

The court heard from Crown counsel Robert Welling, that Police officers were on Cooper's Island Road and stopped a minivan for a routine search. The 17-year old was sitting in the back of the van and appeared uneasy.

Officers noticed his right hand was balled in a fist and he was trying to put it under the seat. When officers searched Hodsoll, they found two plastic pouches of plantlike material. When asked about it, the defendant said: "I just bought it, but I won't tell you who I bought it from."

He was taken to the Southside Police Station and processed. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Hodsoll.
