Two appointments were made by the Ministry of Health and Social Services last week it named the new chief environmental health officer and senior medical
Mrs. Estlyn Harvey was appointed chief environmental health officer and Dr.
Brenda Davidson was made senior medical officer.
Mrs. Harvey began working at the Department of Health in 1964, as an environmental health officer.
In 1988, she was promoted to senior environmental health officer, and was responsible for the administration of a team of inspectors responsible for the western end of the island.
As chief environmental officer, she will be responsible for a 40-member staff, including environmental health officers and the pest control section.
She received her certification in Public Health Inspection from Ryerson Institute in Canada. And she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens University in Canada.
Last year she completed her Master's degree in Management and Human Resources from Webster University.
She has been an active member of the Bermuda Public Services Association serving as shop steward, chief shop steward, member of Government negotiating team and, in 1992, as the first vice president.
Dr. Davidson who is from Belfast, came to Bermuda to work at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as a medical resident in 1969.
Between 1971 and 1978, she worked as a locum in general practice and with the Health Department.
In 1979, she joined the Health Department as a medical officer and in 1984 she was assigned to be officer in charge of the Woman's Clinic, supervising the development of the Maternal health and Family Planning Programme.
She obtained a bachelor of medicine, a Bachelor of Surgery and a Bachelor of the Art of Obstetrics at Queen's University in Belfast.
In 1993, she earned her Master of Arts degree in Health Management Planning and Policy from Leeds University in the United Kingdom.
She has represented the Bermuda Government at the International Planned Parenthood Federation in Kenya and Japan and attended courses in Family Planning in Jamaica and the United Kingdom. She is a member of the Treatment of Offenders Board.
Dr. Davidson and her husband Hugh, have two sons Alex and James.
