Work stopped on Hamilton building site

Power House building on Par-la-Ville Road

Government issued a stop order this week on construction work on the Treo block in Par-la-Ville Road because a building permit was missing.

Environment permanent secretary Ellen Kate Horton said building permits had been issued for the excavation and foundations but there was no permit in place for the above ground work.

Work was halted on Wednesday while the next building permit was applied for and work can resume when permission is given, she said.

If viewed from Par-la-Ville Road, the seven-storey office block sits in front of the restaurant Bermy Cuisine. It features glass panels on three sides and its power supply has been designed to keep running in the event of an Island-wide disaster.

The building will have two emergency generators and two air conditioning systems.
