City seeks land split
Paving the way for a potential hotel to be built in Hamilton, the Corporation of Hamilton is seeking final approval from the Department of Planning to split Par-la-Ville car park from the adjacent park.“Currently the Queen Elizabeth Park and Par-la-Ville car park are seen as one piece of land,” said a spokeswoman for the city. “As you are aware, there is a development planned for a hotel and in order to develop the car park portion, the City of Hamilton applied to the Development Applications Board to subdivide the property.“This was started some time ago and was approved in principle — however, final approval was needed to complete the process.”According to planning documents, a permit was granted last year, but is set to expire at the end of 2014.The spokeswoman added: “Once the developers of the hotel are ready to begin building, the space will no longer function as a park car.“The city will create an awareness campaign advising motorists of other parking options.”
