Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown hit back last night at comments made by an opposition minister on the lack of taxis for the passengers on the mega ships.

Dr. Brown said the Shadow Tourism Minister David Dodwell was incorrect when he said in the media that there were no taxis in Dockyard for tourists exiting off the mega ships.

On Tuesday, Mr. Dodwell had suggested that there were tourists waiting in Dockyard for taxis and as it was there only day on the Island, taxis should be made available to them.

But Dr. Brown said: "The Shadow Minister is incorrect when saying there were not enough taxis in Dockyard, as Transport Control Department (TCD) have placed additional lifts if needed.

"So we are ready for that if and when needed. I don't know where he got his information from, but it was incorrect."

However Dr. Brown did agree with Mr. Dodwell on the point of waiting times at the Bermuda International Airport.

He said: "He is correct - it is an annoying problem. It is a cross ministerial problem, because it is both customs and tourism.

"It is offensive to our tourists, so we are working on it. There are eight on nine issues and we are going to solve it.

"One of many factors is how the officers connect with each passenger during data collection."
