Taxi fares are to increase by 10.5 percent from December 1.

Premier Dr. Ewart Brown announced the rate rise at a press conference this morning, joined by members of the Bermuda Taxi Association Executive and Derrick Burgess, Labour and Immigration Minister.

Dr. Brown said negotiations with the industry over previous months had sought to address rising costs borne by operators and the number of complaints of poor service from members of the public.

He said other issues discussed with the industry included an extension of a fuel rebate to taxis, better insurance coverage and improved service in the area of repairs.

“We’re not yet there but I’m confident we’re moving in the right direction,” said the Premier.
