Vernal Simons, Karesha Robinson, Danielle Martin and Terica Talbot all played a part in the theft and cashing of Government cheques that were intended for the Haven home for teen mums.

They used the money for a spending spree that included a stay at a local hotel, clothing, dining out, taxis, buying a pager and groceries.

The offences were committed when two of the accused, Talbot and Martin, were living at the centre.

Larry Mussenden, prosecuting, said on one occasion a cheque for $3,920 arrived at the Pembroke home but before it could be collected it was taken and cashed with the forged signature of the matron.

The money was split between Talbot, a single mother, and Simons.

The pair then visited Danielle Martin -- also a single mother who is currently pregnant -- in hospital and gave her $1,500.

On another occasion two cheques were taken, with values of $3,544 and $3,920, by Karesha Robinson, mother of an 11-month-old child.

The money was split between Talbot, Martin and Robinson.

Talbot, 17, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire pleaded guilty to stealing a Bank of Bermuda cheque, making a false document and receiving stolen property.

Simons, 17, of Penhurst Park, Smith's, admitted intending to defraud to obtain cash by false pretences and knowingly bringing a false document with the intention to defraud.

Martin, 18, of Berkeley Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to three charges of receiving property knowing it was obtained by false pretences.

Robinson, 19, of St. Monica's Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing a Bank of Bermuda cheque, and two of intending to defraud an individual to deliver cash by false pretences.

Renee Foggo, representing Talbot, said she fully intended to compensate the Haven for the money they had lost and called for a social inquiry report on the young woman.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered the preparation of social inquiry reports on all four women.

Sentencing was adjourned to December 2.
