Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness said he believed ideas for three local consultative committees were an excellent idea.

"I support the idea. Anything that helps to bring the Police and community closer together is a good idea,'' said Mr. Edness.

Police Commissioner Colin Coxall has revealed plans to set up three committees covering the east, west and central divisions.

Members would be drawn from the local community and would be charged with consulting with local divisional commanders and discussing local problems.

A fourth committee could also be set up to represent the whole Island with members drawn from the three local groups.

The committees could replace the current Police Advisory Board which has "lost its way'' and only meets twice a year.
