Bermuda sailors home to the rescue!
Mr. Carston Jacobsen, first officer on the Song of America , and his new bride, the former Miss Thai Maria Descals, a shop assistant on the ship, held their wedding reception there.
They were married at the Anglican Cathedral after they found out the captain of their ship could not marry them.
Earlier this summer the couple decided to marry in Bermuda and had their banns posted.
They thought the ceremony could be performed by the captain. But the plan fell apart when they learned that Royal Caribbean Cruise Line no longer performs marriages at sea.
The couple had no idea where to get married until last Wednesday, when they talked to Mr. Jerry Lines, manager of the Bermuda Sailors Home.
Mr. Lines helped them contact the Bishop of Bermuda, the Rt. Rev. William Down, who agreed to marry them.
After the ceremony and a visit at the Bishop's residence, the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen joined friends and family at the Sailor's Home for the reception.
HAPPY COUPLE -- Mr. and Mrs. Jacobsen
