A brazen robber snatched an unsuspecting shopper's wallet out of her hand as she was paying for items at the People's Pharmacy yesterday.

The complainant told Police that as she stood at the counter at the Victoria Street business, a man approached her and took the wallet before running away. Along with personal papers and credit cards, the robber also got away with $140 cash.

Although the store's security guard gave chase, the culprit made good his escape. However, according to pharmacy manager Warren Furbert cashiers recognised the man and were able to help Police with their inquiries. "We also captured the incident on our surveillance tape, which we have handed over to the Police. We are assisting the Police the best we can."

And while Mr. Furbert expressed his regret that the robbery had taken place, he admitted that sometimes there was only so much one can do to prevent incidents like this from happening.

Especially with the Christmas season in swing, Mr. Furbert said the establishment was increasing its security presence. "We try to make sure our customers are protected as best we can. We just want people to feel as safe as they can when they are here," he said. The suspect was described as being about five feet, ten-inches tall, of medium build, medium-brown skin with dark-coloured hair.
