Oil spill warning in Hamilton

Motorists were warned about an oil spill that happened in Hamilton this morning.

Church Street, Par-la-Ville Road, Dundonald Street and Cedar Avenue were all affected, as well as Court Street and King Street.

A City of Hamilton spokeswoman said that all roads were open.

The spill was discovered just before 7am.

City teams were cleaning up the areas this morning but urged motorists to be cautious on the roads affected.

The City spokeswoman added: “The crews are using Sphag Sorb to contain the spill.

“Sphag Sorb is a natural organic absorbent that is used to clean up oil, gas, diesel fuel, solvents, paints, glycol and organic chemical spills.

“The cause of the spill is under investigation.”
