Driver cut from water truck

Police closed down a section of Middle Road in Devonshire yesterday after a water truck driver had to be cut from the truck when he crashed it into a pillar.

Police received a report of a water truck driving in a dangerous manner around 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The driver, was idenfied as 45-year old Ricky Smith of Somerset.

Mr. Smith struck a stone pillar bordering the west-bound lane on Middle Road almost directly opposite the Ornamental Ironworks at Marsh Lane. He was believed to be trapped in the vehicle for almost half an hour before he was cut free. Mr. Smith was later taken to the hospital with leg injuries.

Extensive damage was caused to the wall, however accident investigators had not yet appeared when The Royal Gazette arrived on the scene.
