Swan remains in intensive care unit
National footballer Randy Swan last night continued to fight for his life in the intensive care unit after a horrific car crash on Thursday morning.
His friend Duval Smith also remained in the ICU last night, though a hospital spokesperson described his condition as stable. Mr. Swan, she said, was in critical condition.
Bermuda's football community has rallied around the pair, and friends and family have held prayer vigils while support has poured in for the Dandy Town player and his friend.
The 24-year old Mr. Swan is believed to have sustained serious head injuries. However no information about 26-year old Mr. Smith's injuries is known at this time.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the December 16 accident, which took place around 1 a.m. on South Road in Southampton, near the Southampton Rangers Club. Emergency services have reported that Mr. Smith was driving east in a grey Renault Clio while Mr. Swan rode as a passenger, when the car lost control on a corner and hit a Peugeot station wagon travelling west.
The driver of the Peugeot, a 25-year old Southampton man, was also taken to the hospital with head injuries, though he was later released. The Bermuda Fire Service reported the impact of the collision was so severe that the seats of the Clio had literally collapsed.
Anyone with any information on the collision is asked to contact P.c. Karema Flood on 295-0011, or 777-0999.
