Opposition to unemployment insurance

A majority of people responding to a poll on The Royal Gazette's website are opposed to unemployment insurance.

The unscientific poll drew 207 responses to the question “Are you in favour of unemployment insurance?” The poll was posted on the website from last Sunday until Thursday at noon.

Of the 207 votes cast, 53.6 percent said they were not in favour of unemployment insurance, 40.1 percent said they were in favour of it and 6.3 percent said they did not know.

Finance Minister Eugene Cox said last Friday in the Budget Statement that Government will introduce unemployment insurance and would table a White Paper in the summer.
