Bermuda will have an added summer flight to Newark Liberty International Airport with the announcement of a new daily Continental Airlines flight.

Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown announced in the House of Assembly yesterday that the added flight will be the third daily Continental Airlines flight to Newark. It will begin on June 10 using a 124-seat Boeing 737.

"Members of the House may be familiar with Continental's year-round daily Boeing 737 Newark flight, which arrives here at 3.15 in the afternoon and departs at 4 o'clock. A second daily midday flight from Newark has also been offered in past summers and it will return again this year as well, arriving in Bermuda at noon and taking off at 1 p.m.," Dr. Brown said.

The third flight will leave Newark at 6.45 p.m. and arrive in Bermuda at 10 p.m.

The new Continental flight will remain overnight along with the American Airlines flight that also arrives at 10 p.m. from John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Dr. Brown added: "(T)his new flight is timed to provide excellent connections with Continental's extensive array of European flights at its Newark hub."

Newark is the ninth new flight added to the 2004 summer flight schedule, which includes flights to Chicago, Orlando and Baltimore/Washington.

"I would like to congratulate the Transport/Tourism team, especially Jim Howes, general manager of our airport, for their perseverance and professionalism in bringing this unprecedented air traffic activity to Bermuda," Dr. Brown said.
