A distraught woman is furious after radio broadcasts claimed her nephew had been shot dead by Police in Jamaica ? although there has been no confirmation from any official source.

The woman, whom we cannot name without identifying the alleged victim, told she was contacted by friends who had heard the 5 p.m. ZFB news broadcast which stated that her nephew, in his 30s, had been gunned down after escaping custody on the Caribbean island where he was being held pending deportation.

She said her sister, the man?s mother, had heard about it while in her car.

Despite the content of the broadcast, Bermudian Police, Jamaican Police and none of the Jamaican newspapers contacted by had heard anything about the incident.

The item, just over a minute long, also appeared on the 6 p.m. news but was not broadcast on ZBM?s television bulletin at 7 p.m.

?How can they do this?? said the woman, who went to bed last night unsure whether her nephew was alive or dead although she did confirm that he was in Jamaica and was known to be in custody.

?My sister is a wreck, she has received some shocking news. But, for us, it is just speculation at the moment. Nobody has told us anything, except ZFB, and that is no way to hear something like this ? if it is true.
