Man airlifted to Island after accident at sea

A 48-year-old man ended up in a Bermuda hospital bed after slipping on a ladder and landing on a rail 360 miles north-east of the Island. The man, working aboard the motor tanker Julia, sustained a serious groin injury in the incident on Friday and was evacuated by helicopter to an unnamed US Naval warship.

The warship then headed towards Bermuda and the man was then taken by helicopter at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday to the airport before being taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to his non-life threatening injuries.

The Julia was travelling between Milos, Greece, and Claymont, Delaware in the United States and continued on its journey after the crew member was air-lifted to safety.
