An 80-year-old Irish visitor fought off a robber after he left a Southampton pub on Monday afternoon.

Police said the Irish visitor left Henry VIII Restaurant and Bar at around 1 p.m. and was jumped on from behind as he neared the Garden Path, Southampton, residence where he was staying.

?A struggle ensued between the two men, with the victim being pushed to the ground by the suspect before he made good his mistake on foot towards South Road,? the Police Service said yesterday. ?Nothing was taken from the visitor, although his glasses were apparently lost in the struggle.?

The visitor was not injured apart from cuts and scrapes to his hands, knees and face, Police said. The suspect is described as an athletic black male, about 6ft, with a round face. He is believed to be in his 20s, clean shaven with a short haircut and wearing dark coloured long pants and a light coloured shirt. Police are appealing for witnesses.
