A quick response after visitor falls off bike
A visitor celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary on the Island flipped off her bike as she drove onto Berry Hill, Paget around mid-day yesterday.
On the scene almost immediately were Red Cross Health, Safety and Disaster Services Coordinator Petra Spencer-Arscott and volunteer Dean Bottomley.
Ms. Spencer-Arscott said she had received a call from her director who had seen the women hit the middle of the barrier and flip off her bike.
The Red Cross headquarters are right around the corner on Berry Hill Road, so Ms. Spencer-Arscott and Mr. Bottomley both grabbed a "Red Cross On The Go' First Aid bag.
They found the American tourist lying in the road on her back and Mr. Bottomley, who was the former Lifeguard Superintendent, stabilised her head and neck.
Ms. Spencer-Arscott took care of any other injuries and made sure the traffic and area was safe before the Police, Fire Department and Ambulance arrived.
She said: "She was fully conscious and was saying her shoulder really, really hurt. When the ambulance arrived they put a neck collar on her and put her on a back board.
"People were really, really helpful. That's something I was impressed by it. It was a really good response more than all."
The woman, who Ms. Spencer-Arscott believes is from Arizona, was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Police did not respond to requests for more information.
