Alan Brangman, 43, the son of Carolyn and Oliver Brangman of Stanford, Connecticut, was recently elected Mayor of Falls Church, Virginia, a city of 23,000 people located near Washington D.C.

He is the grandson of the late Valeria and Harold Talbot of Cricket Lane, Somerset.

Mr. Brangman was born on the Island and attended pre-school at Ely's Harbour, Somerset. According to great-aunt, Miriam Trott of Warwick, he left Bermuda at age six.

"I wasn't surprised (by the election),'' remarked Mrs. Trott. "They were after him for a few years. He was on several committees and was always trying to improve the community. He was always doing something for the kids.'' Mr. Brangman holds a degree in Architecture from Cornell University and certificates in Real Estate Development from Harvard University and Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.

He has also been active in youth soccer and was the first Chairman of the Falls Church Youth Commission. Mr. Brangman also served on the city's planning commission.

He is currently University Architect at Georgetown University.

Mr. Brangman was last in Bermuda in 1989, for the funeral of Valeria Talbot.
