Former Island resident dies

News has been received of the death in Dorset, England of former Bermuda resident Alan Harold Maccoy.

Mr. Maccoy passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 25. He was 86.

Mr. Maccoy first came to Bermuda during the Second World War when he served as an officer in Royal Navy submarines. It was while serving in Bermuda that he met his wife, Patricia, who was also serving in the British armed forces.

They returned to Bermuda with their children in 1966 when Mr. Maccoy took up a post on the Island with Thomas R. Miller and Sons. During his time in Bermuda, he was president of the Retired Naval Officers Association.

Mr. and Mrs. Maccoy left the Island in 1981 and retired first to Ireland and later to Dorset.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three children, Francesca, Paul, and Catherine, and one granddaughter, Samantha.

Mr. Maccoy's funeral will take place Friday, November 1 in the Church of the Holy Rood, Shillingston, Dorset.
