Adams fires early warning

Tucker's Point professional Paul Adams fired an early warning at his rivals yesterday when he carded a fine two-under par 68 in the medal round of the Fritz Reiter Memorial Match Play Championships at Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club.

Adams recorded with six birdies to go with a double-bogey and two bogeys, thus earning him the number two seed behind defending champion Darriek Douglas from Belmont Hills.

Douglas, earned the day off as he had already been awarded the number one position after his thrilling victory last year overt Dwayne Gibson who is not playing this year because of injury.

With the pros entering match play today, Adams, Douglas and David James, ranked number three after shooting 74 yesterday, will all receive byes into the second round.

Today's line-up will see some interesting matches with Steven Roy from Southampton Princess squaring off against Swaine Eve, while Riddell's Bay pro Brian Morris will be trying to fend off the experienced Keith Smith, also from Southampton Princess.

Riddell's Bay assistant pro Chris Smith will also face an experienced competitor in J.J. Madeiros, who is making a welcome return after a long absence through illness.

Danny Johnson meets Andrew Bissell and 'old boys' Twilton Smith and Clevie Tucker will clash in the day's last match.

Play begins at 11a.m. today at Riddell's Bay and will continue on Wednesday with the winners playing two rounds to determine who enters Thursday's 36-hole final.
