Last night's meeting of the Broadcast Commission to decide if Premier Jennifer Smith's February address to the country was a political broadcast got no further than ruling the meeting would not be open to the Press.

The Commission heard from Government, who wanted the Press out, and from Royal Gazette Editor Bill Zuill and ZBM News Director Jim McKey, backed by Opposition MPs John Barritt and David Dodwell, who wanted it made public.

The meeting had been requested by Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons who said the Premier had been political by attacking Shadow Tourism Minister David Dodwell during her televised call for unity after the problems caused by September 11.
