Wilson boosts Bluebirds
Women's ‘A' League
Bluebirds 1 Cardinals 0
Bluebirds welcomed back veteran player Joann Wilson to the fold to create an impressive team. The Blues were dominant from the outset but despite many attempts on goal found themselves thwarted by a determined Cardinals defence. The deadlock was finally broken when Sarah Smith converted a penalty stroke, which she placed perfectly beyond the goalkeeper's reach.
Swallows 4 Swifts 0
Swifts found themselves overwhelmed by a strengthened Swallows team who welcomed back college students Megan Spurling and Caroline Black. Rebecca Pettingill opened the scoring for Swallows as she pushed the ball in at the left post and a second goal followed when a penalty stroke was converted by Spurling.
Swallows were on a roll and scored their third just before the half when Kirstie Kelly struck. However, Swifts put up more resistance after the break, allowing Swallows just one more goal, scored by Caroline Black from the edge of the circle.
Women's ‘B' League
Cardinals 2 Bluebirds 0
Cardinals scored in each half, the first goal coming early when Lakae Dill passed to Iesha Castle who pushed the ball over the line following a goalmouth scramble. The second half saw Dill add a second after receiving a great pass from Kerry Graham.
Swallows 1 Cardinals 1
A tough game between two contenders for the B League title saw each team's midfield control the majority of the game. Swallows had their chances at goal but it was Cardinals who scored first when a breakaway caught their opponents' defence off guard, Lakae Dill passing the ball to Iesha Castle who managed to push it past the keeper.
Swallows came out in the second half determined to find an equaliser and got their reward when Karen Campbell received a cross from the wing and slotted the ball home.
Police Orioles 2 Ravens 0
Ravens had a slow start to the game and Police Orioles took full advantage, scoring two goals in quick succession, courtesy of Zina Jones. This fired up the Ravens and for the remainder of the game they put Orioles' defence under continued pressure, but were unfortunate not to score from one of several penalty corners and a great shot by Jennifer Hanson which went just wide of the post.
Men's League
Upstarts 2 Chameleons 3
Upstarts made Chameleons work for the win. Despite starting two men down, they pressurised their opponents with some direct play throughout the game.
Chameleons got off the mark first when Mark Pettingill managed to find the net through a packed defence. They were soon 2-0 up as Steve Moreton scored from a well-worked penalty corner routine. But this didn't deter Upstarts and they continued to fight, pulling back a goal just before the half when Martin Murphy smacked a bullet into the centre of goal.
The fast action continued in the second half and Chameleons went 3-1 up when Moreton netted his second from the top of the circle but Upstarts closed the gap again when a reckless challenge by a Chameleon defender resulted in a penalty stroke which was duly converted by Neil Carroll.
Chameleons 2 BCS Panthers 0
A full-strength Panthers side turned out to take on the league leaders, but couldn't match their opponents in front of goal. Early in the second half, Chameleons took the lead when Steve Moreton steered the ball past the goalkeeper after a fine cross from Bill Spencer. And then they sealed victory, despite having a man sent off, when Mark Pettingill robbed a defender and slotted the ball home.
