RIMS briefing set for Monday
briefing will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. at the Bank of Bermuda executive floor boardroom.
Task force chairman, Mr. Giles North of the Insurance Advisory Committee (IAC) marketing committee and conference coordinators from Advertising Associates Company Ltd. will go over details with industry personnel who will be attending the conference.
The 33rd Annual RIMS Conference will be in San Francisco, California from April 23 to 28.
The RIMS Conference is the largest gathering of insurance management people in the industry, with over 8,000 attendees and 3,000 support personnel, including over 200 exhibitors.
Mr. North pointed out the importance of Monday afternoon's briefing for conference attendees. He said it was critical to the collective efforts at the conference to eliminate confusion. Those attending would then have a good idea of the overall game plan and coulc spend time selling Bermuda, instead of trying to wade through the confusion that more than 10,000 people can often create.
He said: "Any and all individuals representing Bermuda at the RIMS Conference are invited to attend, as we view Bermuda's participation at RIMS as a joint effort to promote the Island.'' The Bermuda Cottage Booth, winner of last year's "Best in Show'' for the small booth category, will once again be used as the focal point of the Bermuda team on the massive exhibition floor of the Moscone Convention Centre.
With its unique Bermuda flavour, the booth is annually one of the most visited. At last year's conference in New Orleans, the show had just barely opened when the Bermuda booth was already under siege. One special reason for such attention was the chance to obtain a "Bermuda Bag'', a deep gusset natural canvas carry bag with the colourful Bermuda crest emblazoned across it.
Mr. North said, "Conference attendees stand in line and answer a full page questionnaire to get one "Bermuda Bag'' every year. It is an excellent way to get our material into the hands of prospective new clients.'' The bags prove to be very practical for carrying the host of promotional material and other give-aways from exhibitors. The "Bermuda Bag'' will contain an Insurance UPDATE, information on the industry in a new Bermuda International Business Association folder, plus "Where to Stay'' and "Things to do'' booklets from the Department of Tourism.
The always popular Bermuda Reception will be held in the Garden Court of the Sheraton Palace Hotel with hotel staff serving in Bermuda shorts, socks, blue blazers and Bermuda ties. Some 700 guests are personally welcomed to the Bermuda reception by the Premier, the Hon. Sir John Swan, and the Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Saul.
"They do a wonderful job for the industry,'' said reception coordinator Mrs.
Susan White. "They stand at the entrance of the reception and personally greet each and every guest. It's an exhausting day for both of them because they have already spent a good part of the day on an escorted tour through the Exhibition Hall visiting the booths and talking to exhibitors. They really reinforce Bermuda's commitment to the industry.''
