Police last night urged children to inform their parents of their whereabouts after officers launched a major search for a missing teenager at the weekend.

The hunt was sparked at about noon on Saturday after a mother reported her 13-year-old son missing.

She said she had not seen him since 6.30 p.m. on Friday, and feared he was in danger.

Pieces of clothing, believed to belong to the boy, were then found on Evans' Bay in Southampton, leading Marine Police to carry out a full coastal search for the missing teen.

Appeals for the safe return of the Southampton boy were made by Police on both local TV and radio stations, in a bid to obtain information about his whereabouts.

However, the search was called off soon after 4 p.m. on Saturday when the boy showed up at a friend's house unhurt.

Police media spokesman Dwayne Caines last night urged parents and children to formulate a plan before youngsters leave their homes alone.

He said: "Fortunately, the boy was returned to his mother unhurt.

"His mother had obviously been very worried about him for some hours.

"Bermuda Police is always concerned when a young person goes missing, and we were very happy when this young man turned up unharmed.

"But we would advise all parents and children to devise a plan when youngsters go out, where they let someone know where they are going at all times and when they are coming back."
