Strong winds are likely to continue battering the Island over the next couple of days as a series of cold fronts passes through the area.

The gales may be accompanied by the odd heavy shower, however, they will pass quickly as the winds carry them overhead at speed.

Bermuda Weather Service Meteoroligist Declan Harris said the Island was experiencing strong gales, which last night were moving at speeds of 38 knots.

However, he said they stopped some way short of storm force gales, which are sustained winds of 48 knots.

"Pressure has started to rise a bit, so I think the storm to the north of us has begun to move away," said Mr. Harris.

"The wind may drop off a bit overnight and into tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, but it will probably pick back up again on Wednesday night. I would say we are going to see 25 knot winds, at least, for the next few days as little cold fronts come through. But they are nothing unusual for this time of year.

"There are showers out there, but with winds so strong, the shower is here and gone in a minute."

The duty officer at Bermuda International Airport reported no delays or cancelled flights, as a result of yesterday's strong winds.

And he expected last night's American Airline's flight from New York's JFK airport to arrive in on time.
