A 19-year-old man was shot near Maxi Mart in Sandys this afternoon.

Police have confirmed the teenager was riding near the junction of Middle Road and Woodlawn Road, when he was shot.

According to officers, the man is now being treated for his injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police have warned motorists to expect traffic delays while an investigation of the area takes place.

"Presently the area around the shooting has been cordoned off and traffic has been diverted to the railway trail," said a spokesperson.

"We are thanking the public in advance for their cooperation in this matter.

"Police are asking for anyone that man have witnessed the incident or seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact Police on 295-0011 or contact the confidential crime stoppers hotline on 800 8477."
