One of the two men accused of animal cruelty escaped a prison term when he was sentenced in Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Glen Patrick Richardson, 43, from Devonshire was fined $300 by Magistrate Will Francis after being found guilty on four counts of cruelty to animals.

Animal authorities seized the farm of Richardson and Antoine Sealy, 32, of Smith's Parish, when nearly 150 animals were discovered in deplorable conditions. On May 30 last year, malnourished goats, underweight chickens, broken glass around the area and a pile of faeces and urine under the cages of the rabbits and chickens were found on the property along with dead and decaying chickens.

Richardson faced being fined up to $1,000 or 12 months imprisonment.

Sealy is yet to appear in court..
