A 36-year-old Smith's Parish man and former Police officer who appeared in Magistrates' court on Thursday to answer to six counts of sexual abuse was bailed for $5,000.

The six charges stem from two primary charges, which include sexual assault, touching a young person, and inviting a young person to touch him.

Appearing before Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves, the man who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not required to enter a plea.

The man was accused of committing sexual assault on two young men under the age of 18.

The first of three charges stem from the sexual assault of one of the males during May 1, 1996 and September 1998, with the second of the three charges occurring between June 1, 1998 and September 30, 1999.

Mr. Greaves set bail at $5,000 and the man was ordered to appear in Magistrates' Court for mention in August.
