Uniform Secrets

The Bermuda Islands Pipe Band wears the tartan of the Gordon Highlanders and white tropical military doublets. According to their website the uniform is meant to recreate what British highland regiment pipe bands would have worn while deployed in a tropical environment like Bermuda.

GLENGARRY: The hat (but don't call it that) with a special Bermuda Islands Pipe Band pin.

COMMEMORATIVE PIECE OF TARTAN: The Bermuda Police Band and the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band merged. So in recognition of the Bermuda Police Band we wear a little piece of tartan from the police band uniform.

SPORRAN: A pouch made of coarse horsehair. It has to be brushed to keep it tidy.

SGIAN DUBH: (Pronounced Skeen Do) A tiny decorative knife.

SOCKS: The drummers where red and white socks, while the other pipers where green and yellow socks to match their Gordon tartans.

SPATS: The white sheaths over the bottom of her socks. Only the button at the top and bottom are real, the rest is velcroed down.
