Anniversary of march tomorrow
black community is being asked to join their brothers and sisters throughout the world in a day of fasting and reflection.
Chair of the local organising committee George Scott yesterday told The Royal Gazette the local day of fasting and atonement will coincide with a New York City service led by Minister Louis Farrakhan at the United Nations' Dag Hammerskjold Plaza between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
"We have many problems in our (black) community and this is a way to try to get in touch with ourselves, to reflect on our history, to see where we are as a people.'' It is hoped that a grassroots movement will someday grow into a world-wide black holiday; for now however organisers are setting the day aside for individual family activities. No events or rallies are planned said Mr. Scott.
