Lovitta Foggo hopes to highlight St David’s lesser known landmarks and beauty sites to build the area as a tourism hot spot.“Some of the bigger aims would be ensuing that St David's is recognised as the tourism hub that it really is and that requires, of course, ensuring that all of those hidden historic spots are made aware to the public.“As an MP in the next five years I intend to make certain that is brought to light and such areas are operating within the tourism model.”She said that such plans are already well underway.Since her election in the 2007 election, Ms Foggo said she has worked tirelessly for the community, tackling several of the concerns voiced by constituents.“Right from the beginning, I was tasked with getting road work done for Texas Road, which was quickly followed by ensuring that one of St David’s most famous landmarks and tourism spots was indeed repaired, which is the St David’s Lighthouse,” she said. “That took a few months, but we did get it done.“The big issues tend to be the small issues, they are the overall issues such as street lighting road repairs, maintenance of government grounds, and there are always more personal issues where you have to work one on one with families to bring about the wanted response, or the required response so it is win-win.”She also said she hopes to bring an Economic Empowerment Zone to St David’s to help create new jobs and opportunities. She also hopes to revitalise more of the former baselands.“The St David’s islanders and residents as a whole are desirous of seeing a self-sufficient community through the redevelopment of sites already existing as opposed to encouraging new development.”The constituency lost voters to St George’s South in the recent boundary changes. Ms Foggo said she is not worried about how that could affect the likelihood of her re-election.“For me, the boundary change did not make a difference,” she said. “I have always been a firm believer that it is the work an MP is willing to do for a constituency that matters most and if one is working I think that will equate into a successful result. I personally have been working non stop for the last five years.“I raised my family here, both my daughters and my grandson, and this is our beloved home. Seeing St David’s become the number one community in Bermuda, which we already believe it is, is my first and foremost ambition.”
