Former skipper Wendell White put on a sterling all-round performance at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday to inspire his team to a 89-run Premier Division win over visiting Flatts.

White couldn't have made a better statement to Cup Match selectors on his home turf as he hit a blistering 70.

White smashed four fours and six sixes during his whirlwind innings with the runs coming off just 39 balls.

He then returned to claim four for 52 with his medium pace.

Somerset's other Cup Match stalwart, Curtis Jackson (55), picked up where he left off last weekend against St.George's to help himself to a well deserved half century.

Jackson, who looked solid throughout his innings, stroked five fours and two sixes with his 50 coming off exactly 50 balls.

Shawn Roberts hit a brisk 24 and Shannon Warner, who featured in a 74-run third wicket partnership with Jackson, stroked 32. Sheridan Ming added 20 and Davon Wade 16 not out as Somerset posted a big total that kept coach Winston Reid smiling for once.

White and Wade also featured in a brutal undefeated 91-run sixth wicket partnership.

Spinner James Celestine was Flatts' best bowler, taking two for 47, while Troy Dean, Derek Wright and Phillip Burgess all grabbed a wicket apiece.

Flatts were also costly in the field, yielding 45 extras to Somerset's total while also dropping numerous skied chances.

Burgess topped Flatts' batting with a brisk knock of 60.

Vice-captain Burgess blasted seven fours and three sixes while Celestine managed 23 and Justin Barritt 17.

Somerset's Tony Cheeseman also had a fine performance with the ball to claim four for 49 off of just 6.5 overs, while Jacobi Robinson had one for 12 off seven overs.
