A shoplifter, who was locked in a Warwick sports store, smashed the glass of the front door to escape after he stole a pair of sneakers.

The suspect entered Hayward's Sport Store on Middle Road on Saturday evening and tried on a pair of Nike sneakers. The man left the store only to return in hopes of retrieving the sneakers he had been wearing before trying on the Nikes.

The complainant asked the man to return the Nike sneakers but the suspect refused to pay, which prompted the complainant to lock the shop's door.

While he was phoning the Police the suspect broke the glass with a pair of garden shears and escaped the premises.

The complainant described the man as approximately 5' 7-inches tall, dark brown skin with short twists of hair. He was wearing a purple jersey and black jeans.
