Michael Douglas played a starring role with a difference last week.

The part-time Bermuda resident and film legend dipped into his pockets for a "charity head shave" on Friday night at the Robin Hood Pub. He dropped by to match a donation of one of the supporters.

Two women and several men shaved their heads for St. Baldricks National Childhood Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Care Endowment Fund within PALS.

Shauna Use, who hails from Scotland, said her hair had never been cut shorter than shoulder length.

"My hair is down to the middle of my back," said the brunette, who decided to go blond for the occasion.

"It's going to be a shock to the system ? I'll probably be a little unbalanced for a while."

Ms Use only decided to do it to raise funds for the cancer charities and by 4.40 p.m. she had raised $8,000. "I expect that before the hair is cut we should have raised at least $10,000," she said.

Axis Spcialty chairman Michael Butt also took part ? and at 5.45 had raised a whopping $160,000. The St. Baldricks National Childhood Cancer Foundation hosts an annual fund raising event where people completely shave their heads in support of childhood cancer. In the past three years they have raised over $500,000, and $220,000 for PALS.
