None of the New York firefighters who took part in the World Trade Center rescue operation have taken up their offer of a free holiday in Bermuda yet.

Tourism Minister David Allen revealed last year that the Island had offered free vacations to 100 of the September 11 heroes to show Bermuda's appreciation for their work.

Acting Director of Tourism Deanna Wade said yesterday that the invitations were with the office of the Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg and the Island had not received any indication of when the first firefighters will arrive.

Island hotels have agreed to offer the firefighters free rooms, and flights will be paid or subsidised by the Department of Tourism, which is hoping to get cooperation from the airlines which service the Island from New York.
