The Saltus Cavendish Preparatory School will next summer come under the leadership of a new head teacher.

Susan Furr, a Primary One teacher at the school, was awarded the post after it was advertised recently.

Saltus Senior School headmaster Trevor Rowell explained that the position was made available due to the planned retirement of current Cavendish head teacher Shirley Bacon.

Mr. Rowell added: "The Prep School has been fortunate indeed to have been guided over the years by a succession of capable and caring head teachers.

"Mrs. Bacon's tenure has been marked by steady growth, firm and decisive leadership and the most harmonious of relations between staff, students and parents.

"I am confident that Mrs. Furr will continue this fine work and that Cavendish will continue to enjoy the excellent reputation that its head teachers and its professional staff have earned for it over the years.'' Mrs. Furr has been teaching for 26 years, including ten years as the manager of privately-owned pre-school.

She will soon complete a higher-level Masters degree programme from the University of Exeter in England.

Mr. Rowell said: "Because of her excellent service at Cavendish, Mrs. Furr is aware and supportive of the progressive direction toward which Saltus is aiming in its curriculum planning, staff development and the introduction of computer technology across all age levels.'' "She will bring to the job a thorough understanding of these issues,'' he added, "and will help make the students' transition from the Preparatory to the Junior School as happy as possible.''
