Tuesday?s hurricane relief telethon for Ivan-wracked Caribbean islands drew an ?outpouring of generosity?, netting miore than $143,000 in pledges.

Co-hosted by ZBM?s Gary Moreno and West Indian Association member Michael Charles, the telethon lasted four hours and was supported by a cross section of the community.

Now the organisers are hoping that all those who made pledges actually cough up the money.

?The West Indian Association was tasked with coordinating and putting on the programme, but it was a joint effort on the part of the entire community,? Mr. Charles said.

?It was really an outpouring of generosity on behalf of the Island.

?I?m not surprised because Bermudians always give but it was really heart-warming to see.?
