The attack occurred while Mrs. Caisey was taking "Toy'' for an evening walk along Scenic Heights in Southampton.

"It happened so fast, I don't think Toy felt anything,'' Mrs. Caisey's husband, Carlos Caisey, said.

Mr. Caisey said the neighbour's dog ran out, grabbed Toy, shook it, likely killing it instantly, then dropped the dog and bolted.

The dog's body is being examined by a vet to determine the cause of death.

The five-pound pomeranian, on a leash at the time of the attack, was no match for the other dog, believed to be about 40 pounds and part pitbull.

"It's like a member of the family has been killed,'' Mr. Caisey told The Royal Gazette .

He said his wife saw the owner of the dog in her yard and believed the dog was in the house when she walked by. Minutes later she would be sitting on the curb crying, the pomeranian lifeless at her feet.

Mrs. Caisey had had the dog for about six years.

"About a year and a half ago, my wife was walking by the same house and saw the dog come out. But she was able to pick up Toy in time,'' Mr. Caisey said.

Tuesday's attack reminded him of a nature show on television.

He wants the neighbour's dog destroyed. He also wonders if the lives of children passing by might be at risk.

"They haven't even said sorry,'' he said.

Government dog warden Leonard "Shinah'' Simons said he has taken statements from both dog owners. He declined to discuss the matter further, although he said this was the first complaint he had taken about the dog.

But, said Mr. Caisey, "A million dollars can't replace Toy.'' He said that owners of the two dogs may settle the matter among themselves.
