Terrier early on Saturday evening.

Police were called by an irate resident of Hermitage Road, Devonshire, at about 5.30 p.m. after he let his Yorkshire Terrier dog out of the house into the yard and seconds later heard a high-pitched yelp of pain.

He told Police that he immediately ran outside and discovered a Pitbull Terrier attacking his dog.

Despite several attempts he could not break the dog's deadly jaw-grip.

The Yorkshire Terrier was taken to the vet but died as a result of the severe injuries inflicted.

Police last night appealed for anyone with information to come forward to help with their investigation.
