from the sixth-storey of a city building landed with no broken bones.

Owner Mr. Dennis Cassidy told The Royal Gazette he took his three-year-old Australian Shepherd dog, Shannon, to work with him at the Dallas Building on Victoria Street.

Mr. Cassidy said he was taking out the trash on the building's sixth floor when he noticed that Shannon was missing.

He searched for the dog, he recalled.

"I looked on the elevator but couldn't find her,'' Mr. Cassidy said, "and because the rest of the building was closed I jokingly said she must have flown.'' He then went down to the third floor where he said he found Shannon who was very stunned.

"She had fallen from the sixth floor to the third floor which is 38 feet and 2.5 inches, that's very high,'' Mr. Cassidy added.

"Mr. (Paul) King of King Associates helped me to put her in the car and I took her to Endsmeet Animal Hospital. The vet wanted to keep her for observation but said that it looked like everything would be all right.'' But he later learned that Shannon required surgery for a ligament injury in her right fore leg.

Veterinarian Dr. Linda Counsell told The Royal Gazette that Shannon was "in shock, had some mild bleeding in her chest cavity, haemorrhaging around the left eye, and some abdominal pain'' when she arrived at the animal hospital.

The dog's surgery was successful and Mr. Cassidy took Shannon -- who is now sporting a cast on her right fore leg -- home 10 days ago.

Mr. Cassidy said he was very grateful to the Endsmeet Animal Hospital who did a "terrific'' job.
