Brannon hits out after Lines calls Police again
Party promoter Tony Brannon has again claimed businessman David Lines is out to "shut down'' the popular revelry at Hawkins Island.
In an e-mail sent to The Royal Gazette Mr. Brannon called Mr. Lines "spiteful, inconsiderate, selfish'' and said he was "worthy of all of Bermuda to stand up to him'' and said 22 Bermudians had entertained 258 tourists and locals before a phone call from Mr. Lines to Police stopped the party.
"We must seek to have a Government decree, supporting us, and granting us a permit to operate without interruption from the pesky David Lines family,'' he wrote. "I will start up an Island-wide campaign to sign up, via a petition the support of Bermuda for Hawkins Island.
"Again I point out that the Lines family summer shack is just that,'' Mr.
Brannon added. "Their main house is on the mainland. Plus Hawkins Island was there entertaining visitors long before he brought his shack. So he knew what the deal was: Hawkins Island entertains visitors!'' Mr. Brannon also quotes a "frequent camper'' in the area of Paradise Lakes area who called on Mr. Lines to support efforts to revive tourism, doubts he has the support of other residents on nearby Long Island, and claimed Mr.
Lines has two dogs that are nuisances.
Currently the music and revelry ends at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. "at the very latest'', the camper added, and suggests Mr. Lines retire to air conditioned rooms in his property.
Mr. Brannon cites support from residents of other islands including David Anfossi, Gill and Tom Butterfield, Peter Crisson, Jennifer Conyers, and Steven Dallas.
"Even the head of the Hotel Association was there and marvelled at what a great night it was,'' he added. "So, on the last song the Marine Police show up, as David Lines had called again to try and shut us down.'' Mr. Brannon claims that the public address system used to play reggae and soca music is "hardly a concert rig'' and that Police officers are "really annoyed'' at the continual protest calls.
