Dentists and vets are among volunteers who have stepped up to give coronavirus vaccinations, the health minister announced tonight.

Kim Wilson said that the number of people who had signed up to get the shots had risen.

She added offers of help had come from “a broad range of the allied professions”, including EMTs and retired nurses.

The news came it was reported that 417 coronavirus test results had come back clear.

Ms Wilson said one Covid-19 case had recovered since the last update, which left nine active infections, with one in hospital but not in critical care.

The other eight cases are being monitored by public health officials.

The island has had a total of 703 coronavirus infections and 12 people have died.

A total of 493 cases were classed as on-island transmissions, with 402 listed as having a known contact and 91 with no known source.

The source of one case is under investigation.

The number of cases that have come in from overseas is 209.

The seven-day average of the real time reproduction number remained at less than one and the country status was still at “sporadic cases”.

Ms Wilson highlighted that people who needed a test to travel should not show up on the day of travel or the day before.

She told the public that bookings should be made “at least two days before the date you plan to leave Bermuda” to meet the 72-hour rule imposed by the United States, Britain and Canada.

Ms Wilson warned that unexpected delays had caused some travellers to miss their flights.
