Those that are lying must resign

February 19, 2014

Dear Sir,

Having just listened to Premier Cannonier’s response to serious allegations made against him, and his colleagues, I am happy to see he is going to sue for slander. There is too much suspicion going around that needs clearing up.

Opposition Leader Marc Bean and David Burt must have evidence to support their claims or else they will be in for a difficult time.

We the public should get a swift response by the courts on this matter because if it drags on the damage could be insurmountable. A trial will determine who is telling the truth and the outcome could determine who we, the voters, are to trust.

If the Premier and his colleagues are found guilty of any wrongdoing it will not bode well for Bermuda. They would have to step down as leaders of our island. Likewise if Mr Bean and Mr Burt are found guilty of slander, it would suggest they are not trustworthy, and should step down as well.

A lot is at stake here. This case will demonstrate to the public freedom of speech, and the boundaries, and limits, of such freedom.

Let the chips fall where they may.
